Preparing yourself for surgery under intravenous sedation

YOUR SURGERY IS SCHEDULED UNDER INTRAVENOUS SEDATION, HERE IS A REMINDER OF THE STEPS TO FOLLOW.

  • You must not ingest any foods, nor drink any liquids for the 6 hour period prior to your surgery.

  • You must be accompanied by a responsible adult. This person must remain on-site during your intervention and be with you for the remainder of the day.

  • Wear comfortable clothing and a short sleeve shirt.

  • The day of your surgery, continue to take your usual medication with a little bit of water, unless the surgeon has indicated otherwise.

  • All fingernail polish must be removed.

  • For the 24-hour period following your surgery, the medication used for the sedation might still be in your system and can impair your faculties. It is therefore recommended to avoid driving or travelling alone, to rest and avoid any substances that could cause drowsiness such as alcohol, cannabis and sleeping pills.
